In the end, the Munich women in the end clearly prevail. It has been scarce for a long time.
Thanks to strong morality, the German champion Bayern Munich, on the other hand, moved into the semi-finals of the women’s DFB Cup. In the top game against Bundesliga leader Eintracht Frankfurt, the team of coach Alexander Straus won 4: 1 (1: 1, 0: 0) after extra time.
Jovana Damnjanović saved the Munich women in the 90th minute with the equalization, in the extension Glódís Viggósdóttir (93.), Momoko Tanikawa (104th) and again Damnjanović (109.) then shot to victory. An own goal of international Carolin Simon (79th) had previously brought the previous year’s finalists to the brink of leaving (read the chronicle for the game here).
Simon’s mistake caused a late fright with Bayern, but Damnjanović saved her team into the extension. There Viggósdóttir succeeded in the 2-1 for preliminary work by Tanikawa, who became the game’s player. The substitute Japanese then shone with a remarkable goal before Damnjanović scored again.
In the league, both teams are tied at the top of the table, the Frankfurt women have the better goal difference.
At the Munich women, goalkeeper Maria Luisa Grohs was back on the bench for the first time after their tumor disease. Ena Mahmutović stood between the posts.
