Eelde has a scoop: together with Nieuw Beerta in Groningen, the village has had the first local ice day of the winter season. It was a maximum of -0.3 degrees in Eelde, says RTV Drenthe weatherman Hans Nienhuis. In Nieuw Beerta it was -0.4 degrees, reports Weeronline.
An ice day is when it remains below zero degrees all day. Last year the first local ice day was on December 9 and you could skate on natural ice in various places. That’s not the case yet.
An official ice day – when it remains below 0 all day at the main measuring station in De Bilt – has not yet happened. It was 0.9 degrees in De Bilt today.
