There is a wealth of authors XXIII edition of the City of Books, an event organized in Campi Salentina, in the Lecce area.

Founded in 1995, the City of Books was defined in 2008 as “Best Italian event for the promotion of books and reading” by the “Centre for books and reading” of the Ministry of Culture.

The literary event returns six years later, after the three-year period of Covid and a restyling operation, and includes 74 appointments, 14 workshops and 120 authors involved.

The XXIII edition was entitled “Culture (that) changes” and presents itself as inclusive, sustainable, multimedia and multi-expressive. As a symbol of the event, a large bright moon in Piazza Libertà. To remind readers of a symbol of knowledge and cultural longing.

A “widespread” City of Books

However, the novelty of this edition will be the places that host the event, no longer hosted at the Campi exhibition center but “spread” throughout the historic center of the city: the Excelsior cinema-theater, recently renovated and named after Carmelo Bene with the Pinocchio installations created by the maestro Stefano Conticelli, Piazza Libertà and its churches – Santa Maria delle Grazie and Sant’Oronzo – the “Don Pietro Serio” room, the Pastoral Center, the area of ​​the Gardens of Casa Prato.

There are many sections, from digital to fiction. There will be one dedicated to the graphic novel, created with the Lecce comic school “Lupiae Comix” (Grafite group), as well as the “Food & Book” space, dedicated to the discovery of lost flavours, where with chef Giorgio Falconieri will renew the history of many Salento dishes, prepared together with the writer Massimo Vaglio. Also guest of the Città del Libro was Luca Pappagallo, one of the most loved chefs on the web thanks (but not only) to the recipe portal Casa Pappagallo.

Saturday 25 November we start at 10.45am with Chiara Finaauthor of The summer burns, his debut novel (Guanda). At 12 Dario Vergassolaauthor of The Evil Ones or the home of bizarre stories (Baldini & Castoldi) talks with Rossella Santoro, at 4pm a round table on the future of publishers is planneda with Livio Muci (president of the Pugliese Editori Association), Paolo Ponzio (president of the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese), Angela Schena (Schena publishing house), Carla Palone (Gelsorosso publishing house), Michela Santoro (Bookshop). Moderated by Giacomo Fronzi.

At 5.30pm the journalist from I Woman, Michaela K. Bellisario, will present his latest novel At the last check – Buddha, the hostages and the Queen Waving – (Do It Human) with Francesca Sassoli, author of Immaculate or of the Divine Conception of the self (Capponi editor). Also creative workshops for the little ones

Among the new features there are also creative workshops for the little ones, like the one created by master Stefano Conticelli: a large puzzle to color and put together entitled “My first book” with the name and surname of the participants.

Partners of the City of Books this year are, in addition to the municipality of Campi Salentina, the Chamber of Commerce, the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, the Union of Municipalities of Northern Salento. The initiative also enjoys the patronage of the Puglia Region, the Province of Lecce and the University of Salento.
