Berlin dares! People in the capital are getting married more frequently again. 34 lucky times a day!
Tying the knot is becoming a trend again. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of marriages in Berlin rose to 12,341 (+ 1.5%) in 2022. On average, around 34 couples are married every day. A year earlier there were at least 12,163 marriages.

Hiva Byanmand (22, Tesla employee) and Hussein Sabra (23, self-employed in the financial sector): “We were made for each other and that’s why we’re getting married today! We know each other from school, he was a year above me, but we met through friends,” she says. He: “I rented a room with a view of the Berlin skyline for last year’s application. The number of marriages in Brandenburg is even clearer: According to Destatis, 13,178 (+ 11.5%) couples said yes here in 2022. In the previous year, on the other hand, there were only 11,818 marriages.
Berlin-Brandenburg on cloud 7 – and psychotherapist Wolfgang Krüger knows why: “In times of crisis with inflation and war, the Germans rely on reliability and security.”

Esra (27, civil servant) and Tuna (29, police officer) Sillmann-Yonkuc: “He approached me in a café and after two months we got together. Last year he applied in the Sanssouci Palace Park with music and balloons – he really tried his best and I didn’t expect it. We love each other and we celebrate it today,” she says Photo: Sven Meissner
But: Last year, the number of divorces in Berlin also rose slightly – by 0.2% to 5851. That is nine more than in the previous year (5842).
A strong sign of love: the bottom line is that there are more than twice as many marriages as there are divorces.
