In August, shooting stars yes but also the supermoon

TOAugust is definitely the month of shooting stars: the Night of San Lorenzo on August 10 lights up with a luminous rain that conquers the upturned heads of many holidaymakers and non-holidays every year. But besides beautiful PerseidsAugust is generous with celestial shows starting immediately, exactly from August 1st.

The

Not just shooting stars, the Sturgeon Supermoon

The first day of the month arrives Sturgeon supermoon, the biggest of the year. Second Supermoon of the summer after Deer Moon in early July, this full moon is described as 14% larger and 30% brighter than the traditional one.
But if the difference is almost invisible to the naked eye, a telescope will allow you to fully enjoy it. Then into the night between 1 and 2 August 2023no commitments, even if to see it at its best, the best time will be the early hours of the morning.

But does the supermoon really exist?

There definition of supermoon is not official because it has never been confirmed by the International Astronomical Union. However, it is a common term to indicate that a full moon or new moon is “super” if it reaches at least 90% of its maximum possible perigee. That means it must be no more than 361,885 kilometers from Earth. And, in fact, the August 1 full moon will be the closest of the yearbecause it will only be “only” 357,330 kilometers away from the Earth, becoming a truly super super moon.

Sturgeon moon why

Almost all of the names attributed to the full moon were given by Native Americansi.e. comes from characteristic events of the month in question: for example, for many tribes living in the Great Lakes area, August was traditionally the sturgeon fishing seasonhence the name of this month’s full moon.
Other names given by Native Americans to this full moon are: Corn moon, Wild rice moonAnd Cherry moon blackand, as the Anglo-Saxons called it Grain Moon.

But the August Supermoon is not just one

In August 2023, we will also have a Blue Moon: this is the name of either the third of four Full Moons in an astronomical season, or the seasonal Blue Moon, or the second Full Moon in a solar month, or the calendar Blue Moon. The next Blue Moon will be on August 31st at 01:35. And this will also be a Supermoon.
