“The application for permits went well, but it took a lot of time,” Thijssen said last summer at RTV Drenthe. “That was to be expected, because it is a national monument. There are many requirements for renovating something like this. I even had to find out the original paint color of the inner staircase.” Instead of months, this process took almost two years. “If you then look at national developments in construction, personnel and material costs, the original plan became impossible.”
