In 2022: Twitter is testing an edit button

It has been standard on Facebook, Instagram and Co. for years, and on Twitter its users have wanted it for at least as long. We are talking about the so-called edit button, i.e. an editing function that allows you to correct or change a tweet that has already been posted without having to delete it completely and repost it. This would be very helpful in the case of typos and other careless mistakes – but it might also be helpful if you found out a few minutes later that one or the other choice of words might not have been the right choice.

Twitter users, including celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Ice-T, and Katy Perry, have mocked or called for the lack of this button for years. On April 1, the short message service took up the topic itself and posted: “We’re testing an edit button”. The community thought this was an April Fool’s joke. Apparently it wasn’t anyone.

On Tuesday, Twitter tweeted via its official account that they would be testing the feature on their paid version, Twitter Blue, for the coming months and want to learn what works and what’s possible. It is not yet clear whether and when this function will be rolled out for all Twitter users. In any case, this decision to test is allegedly not related to the fact that Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently took over large shares in Twitter. The day before Twitter’s announcement, Musk asked his 80 million+ followers if they wanted an edit button. Over 73 percent voted in favour.

Elon Musk is currently in Berlin, among other things, because of the opening of Tesla’s Giga Factory in Brandenburg.
