The artwork The Hauntings is temporarily drawn up at the Menin Gate in Ypres. The 6.5 meter high wrought iron statue overlooks the monument and recalls the many soldiers who died during the First World War without returning.

The inspiration for the image comes from artist Jo Oliver. As a young girl she heard the story of a soldier who after the war went looking fruitlessly for his home and loved ones. When she came to live near those same fields years later, she decided to shape that figure. “It felt like my duty to make this story tangible,” says Oliver.
