DUO will resume the imposition of the integration obligation on newcomers who fall under the Civic Integration Act (Wi)2013 before 1 June 2022. This was already the case at the end of March for integrators who have to integrate under the Civic Integration Act (Wi) 2021.
The new Civic Integration Act came into effect on 1 January 2022. However, some newcomers still have to integrate under the old law from 2013. This depends on the date on which they become subject to the integration requirement. If that is on or after 1 January 2022, they will fall under the new law. Shortly after the introduction of the new integration system, it turned out that several newcomers had incorrectly received a notification that they had to integrate under the Wi2021. They should have been covered by the 2013 law. At the request of the minister, DUO therefore temporarily halted the integration process.
In March this year, the integration process was resumed for family migrants, asylum status holders and other migrants under the Wi2021. For integrators who fall under the Wi2013, this took a little longer, partly because SZW still had to make a decision about a few exception groups. It is now also resumed for those groups. Newcomers under the Wi2013 will receive a notification about the integration obligation before 1 June.
In addition, SZW is still working with the chain partners on a suitable solution for newcomers who had incorrectly received a notification in January that they had to integrate under the Wi2021. It is being examined under which law they will integrate.
