Important points for Germanicus in ‘lousy match’

FOOTBALL – Germanicus today won 1-2 against FVC in the 1st division F. Important points to keep in touch with the top of the ranking. Yet trainer Andre Mulder would rather not have traveled to Friesland today.

“FVC has an artificial turf field and then you are obliged to play, but it was a worthless game. The field was on the bare plain and the wind was perpendicular to the field. This was absolutely no weather for playing football,” the coach admitted after end on.

Head Start

Still, Germanicus took matters into his own hands early in the match. Kain Hoogeveen scored the opening goal and Reinier de Boer scored the 0-2 not long afterwards. The home team backed off a bit when a long throw-in blew in, but Germanicus didn’t run into any more problems after that. “After the 0-2 we should have pushed through a bit more, but in the second half we didn’t run into problems for a moment, so we just deserved to win here.”

Sip on a drink

The victory allows Germanicus to add three points again and that is important after last week’s slippage to maintain connection with the top of the rankings. “Then we missed many players who were there again today and that saves a sip on a drink. The gap now remains manageable and that is very important. We are happy with it and therefore celebrate a small party in the bus, but for now we prefer to go back to Coevorden with screeching tires.”

After today, Germanicus is in fifth place in the ranking with 15 points from 9 matches. The gap with leader VKW is only four points. Next week the meeting with closest competitor GRC Groningen is on the program.
