Imola sprint race: what’s up again? These are the changes in the rules | Sport

This year, just like in 2021, there will be three Formula 1 weekends with a sprint race, an extra race of about 100 kilometers between qualifying and the Grand Prix. The one in Imola this weekend is the first of these.

Compared to last year, some adjustments have been made to the rules. So there are no longer just three points waiting for the winner, but no less than eight. The first eight drivers receive points. And the result of the sprint race determines the starting order of the Grand Prix.

That was also the case last year, only then the winner also received the term ‘pole position’ after his name. That title will now be given to the winner of Friday’s qualifying, even though he could have ended up a lot further on the starting grid two days later.
