‘I’m really a left-wing bitch’

Emma Wortelboer finds it very strange when critics call her a ‘left-wing bitch’, she says. “I have never said or expressed that anywhere. But it is correct. Hahahahahaha.”

It is also sad how completely unpopular Emma Wortelboer (27) is. Showbiz regularly talks about the goodwill factor, but what value should we place on it? ‘N/A’? Sometimes it seems as if she only annoys people. She gets into the program MISCHA! choose some hate comments for her.

Emma from Manderveen

Emma responds matter-of-factly. “Most of them are right, except about the canal belt. So I never understand that. People think I’m from the Randstad, because I’m anything but from that, but people quickly make that connection. Apparently I’m also left-wing.”

Strange, Emma thinks. “I’ve never said that anywhere or expressed that or anything, but people love to put that label on you if they don’t agree with you. I notice. And the Randstad is apparently also part of that. But I come from Twente, I come from Manderveen. 246 people live there, so that is really the completely different side of the Netherlands.”

Oat cappuccino

Hostess Mischa Blok then does an are-you-canal belt-or-not test. “Do you drink oat cappuccino?”

Emma: “No, not either. Hahaha.”

Mischa: “Do you eat avocados every day?”

Emma: “No, not.”

Mischa: “Then you really can’t get that label, no.”

Emma: “No, that’s right. It is also stereotyping. People also find it easy to put things into boxes. That keeps things clear.”

Left bitch

Is there any truth in critics calling her a ‘left-wing bitch’? “Because you say that there is some kind of truth in many things,” says Mischa.

Emma admits: “Yes, I am. I’m also really a left-wing bitch. Hahahahaha. What makes me a bit of a jerk is that I don’t really conform to other people’s feelings or opinions if I don’t really feel like it myself. People can label that as nonsense and I sometimes think that is justified.”

Social

And what about the left? “And the left… Yes, I find that the most difficult, but I think what they mean by that is that you take care of others, so that’s fine, you know. Social.”

She finds the canal belt accusation most irritating. “I then think: that’s just not right. Then I have the urge to say something about it and put it right, but I never actually do that, because that of course makes no sense at all. Then you just give them more food. You should not do that.”
