Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wouldn’t want to hear any talk of a historic triple championship.
– How many times has it been done in this wonderful country during history? Guardiola asked on Friday.
– The correct answer is one. And in how many centuries? Our neighbors did it. I’m not at all interested in triple.
Next door, Guardiola referred to Manchester United’s spring of 1999, when the team won the Premier League, the English League and the Champions League.
– We are closer to not succeeding than succeeding, the Catalan coach continued.
The spraying cannot continue for much longer. On Saturday, the team secured their place in the final of the English Cup when they beat Sheffield United Riyad Mahrez’s 3–0 with a hat trick.
Earlier in the week, City knocked Bayern Munich out of the Champions League, and the place in the final match is only behind a two-legged semi-final.
In the Premier League, Arsenal dropped points for the last time on Friday. The Gunners’ bet is completely lost, and even a draw is enough for City in next Wednesday’s “championship fight”.

Guardiola is probably the only City person who doesn’t want to celebrate the treble.
– It means a lot to us that we are in the final of the Cup, because we want to go as far as possible in every race. Now we have to focus on the league and the match against Arsenal,” Mahrez told ITV.
Manchester United and Brighton will meet in the second semi-final of the Cup on Sunday.
