“I’m fulfilling a dream”

Finally ride your bike to college

“It’s not that easy in Madrid,” says Sara Lombán. When she came to Lübeck, she was particularly happy about being able to cycle to the university. The 20-year-old Spaniard is studying for a master’s degree Biomedical Engineering at the TH Lübeck. She heard about studying at the TH Lübeck from an acquaintance. “In the area Biomedical engineering The university has a very good reputation and I really liked the overall offering.” The Spaniard also likes the proximity to the sea: “We were in Travemünde during the Welcome Weeks. I think it’s very nice there.”

Sea connects

Ayman Zariohi also confirms this. Ayman is one of a total of 18 preparatory students who began their preparation for studying at a university in the winter semester of 2023/2024. All students take the entrance test at the central preparatory college University of Applied Sciences Kiel. After successfully passing the course, the preparatory students take part in the courses at one of the three branch offices in Schleswig-Holstein. Ayman chose Lübeck: “I particularly like the fact that so many students live in a relatively small city. At the beginning I didn’t know anyone, but now I’ve made a lot of friends here.” The proximity to the sea is particularly important for him. “In my hometown in Morocco, I look at the sea as soon as I get up.”

From excitement to relief

“The fact that I was going to Germany alone made my family nervous, but when they visited me in Lübeck they were relieved,” says Mikheil Sologhashvili. When he arrived in Germany, the 17-year-old immediately noticed the green cities. “In Georgia we have a very diverse nature – but the cities are mostly gray. “It’s completely different in Lübeck – it’s green and ecological here,” says the Georgian enthusiastically. “When I sort garbage, I’m doing something good for the environment.” The 17-year-old chose his course of study based on the quality of the teaching. “The training system in Germany has a good reputation,” says Mikheil. In preparation for starting studies in Germany, the young Georgian, like Ayman Zariohi, is taking part in the preparatory college at the TH Lübeck. “When I finish my preparatory college, I want a broad-based course of study such as: mechanical engineering choose.”

“I’m fulfilling a dream”

Sarmmila Ramasamy also chose Germany because of the quality of her studies. “In my opinion, Germany and Japan are the best countries to study engineering,” said the 26-year-old. After completing her bachelor’s degree, the young Malaysian moved to Bavaria to gain her first professional experience and save money for her master’s degree. She has now done that and studied Medical Microtechnology at the TH Lübeck: “I’m currently fulfilling a dream,” says Sarmmila. In order to later help with the development of medical technology devices, the 26-year-old would particularly like to learn Matlab and programming languages such as Python. “Companies are looking for people with these qualifications,” says Sarmmila. The biggest challenge for her is the language. “German is very difficult. But I can only encourage those who are willing to learn and advise them to go to Germany.”

“I feel very welcome”

Robin Thétiot came to TH Lübeck through the Erasmus program. “I liked Lübeck best out of five possible cities. “I also already knew Lübeck from a vacation,” says the 21-year-old. “I would like to get to know a lot of new people and cultures at the TH Lübeck.” But Robin can also imagine working in Germany beyond the Erasmus program. “I have felt very welcome here since I started at the university. We all had a lot of fun during the Welcome Weeks.” Robin has already discovered one culinary difference – beyond the number of types of cheese: Franzbrötchen!
