Two drivers fought an illegal race in Tegel on Thursday night.

Emergency services became aware of the cars that raced across Bernstorffstrasse/Berliner Strasse at around 12:45 a.m.

They ignored the stop signals of the emergency services and also a red traffic light, so that a bus driver was forced to slam on the brakes.

Then one of the two is said to have driven into oncoming traffic on Karolinenstraße, whereupon he could be stopped at a nearby parking lot.

The driver (20) tried to flee on foot, but was arrested on Humboldt Island. His 20-year-old passenger was still in the vehicle.

The driver had drugs and a knife with him, and two license plates advertised as wanted were found in the trunk of the car.

The second vehicle managed to escape via Karolinenstrasse.
