Thanks to the criticism over the old positive manner, the hoofd personages were reported, so it was hard for us zillion. In a week tijd left the film 132,000 visitors to the cinema. Daarmee doet het beter dan Top Gun: Maverick. ‘A great public film made stond altijd al op mijn bucket list’, says director Robin Pront.
Bent u verrast door het succes?
“In deze mate wel, yes. I had hooted and thought that the film would be on the aanslaan. Ik ben zelf heel tevreden met zillion, en ik voelde dat het leefde bij het publiek. Maar dit getal is absurd. That leek iets uit long vervlogen tijden, eerlijk gezegd. It’s fantastic.”
“I can’t lie: het voorbije jaar zijn he veel mensen uit de filmbusiness naar mij toegekomen die Zeiden: ‘zillion, the film would like later zien dat Vlaamse cinema still left.’ He lay dus wel druk op, maar daar heb ik blijkbaar toch aan kunnen weerstaan.” (laughs)
“It’s really an overrompeling. I knew that there was a difference: I wanted to remember that I had made the film, when I was told about a release in Koersel. Then I didn’t really want to make an event of it, with a DJ and al. The film has become an event that overstijgt het cinemabezoek. That is also the old age of the bedoeling.”
The last jaren hebben Vlaamse films het vaak moeilijk om veel volk naar de bioscoop te trekken. Waarom lukt het wel voor zillion?
“Het is not aan mij om the analysis te maden. Maar ik voelde wel dat zillion heel hard leefde. Het was a stock verhaal, that mensen vaagweg known, but there was also a lot of mystery surrounding it. That was tingly anyway.”
“Mensen hebben na corona nood aan dit soort film, think ik. That is in the card van zillion speeled. It’s a super cool film: it’s really an entertaining rollercoaster, a film about the canteens in a warm bathroom of nostalgia. That’s what it’s worth for people who don’t think about it: I’ll report it to people who were born in the year that the Zillion dense is gone, who are stubborn: ‘I’m wild because I’ve got it.’ All generaties gaan ernaartoe, and that is ongelooflijk. That was de uitdaging.”

Uw previous movie D’Ardennes, almost destijds 160,000 bezoekers. What was the ambition for? zillion?

“Goh, I will Erik zijn record not per se afnemen, want hij is daar heel fier op. (laughs) I don’t know anything about zulke cijfers at all nog possibly zijn. Ik zou al heel blij zijn than we daar nog maar enigszins in de buurt zouden komen. When we got into the top 20 van Vlaamse films, it was fantastic.” (Op de 20ste plaats staat ‘Rundskop’, met 445.875 bezoekers, EWC)
The wing open dagen he also kritiek, onder me op de manner waarop Dennis ‘Black Magic’ burkas are portrayed. Heeft the criticism u geraakt?
“There is a beetje aan mij voorbijgegaan, than I eerlijk ben. Als je wilt weten hoe ik daarover Denk… De film is hoe ik daarover Denk. I think that the film will speak for you.”
Dead slot: the film does het in Vlaanderen zelfs better dan Top Gun: Maverick eerder dit jaar. Is there an oversteek to Hollywood in the next step?
“How sweet. I would like to see the next day. Maken a big public film, that stone as a filmmaker really op my bucket list. I can do that now. First of all, I urgently want something to do with the slate in the vacant lot. En dan zal ik wel zien wat op mij afkomt. Of ik nu druk voel? I have he lover so dan elseom.
