Combined skiers Ilkka Herola and Eero Hirvonen realized their dream on Thursday when they were able to jump from Planica’s legendary flying hill.
The duo shared videos of the memorable jumps on their respective Instagram accounts.
– One long-term dream came true today. We had the chance to fly at Planica, the mother of all ski jumping hills! It’s vacation time, Herola wrote excitedly.
Hirvonen was just as overwhelmed by the experience. He said that he and Herola already got to the Planica tower on Wednesday, but the jump had to wait until the next day.
– A little boy’s dream, the world’s steepest ski jump and crossing 200 meters. That was really great, I haven’t gotten the same feelings from jumping (if anything) for years. While waiting for the next time, Hirvonen beamed.
Hirvinen’s jump carried exactly 208 meters. He aired his handsome cut after coming down, even though no WC points were awarded for the performance.
The final weekend of the Ski Jumping World Cup is currently underway in Planica. The combined Finns were able to try out their jumping skills in connection with the competition event.
Niko Kytösaho was 28th in Thursday’s qualifying with his jump of 213.5 meters. Antti Aalton ranking was 45th and Eetu Nousiainen 49th
