Iltalehti evaluates the UMK performances based on the dress rehearsal.
The new music competition will be decided tonight in the live final broadcast. The winner will represent Finland at this spring’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. Editor of Iltalehti Mari Pudas watched UMK’s general practice at Nokia Arena in Tampere.
Iltalehti divided lions and sheep based on the performances. The worst grade is three sheep, the best three lions.
Blue Sabotage – Peel me
Sini Sabotage is an experienced performer. There wasn’t really anything wrong with the general performance, but it lacked surprise and that “something”.
If you thought in advance that the performance would raise the song to a new level, this did not happen.
The song and especially the rap went well. Not in the fight for victory, but still a decent performance. Blue Sabotage is back!

Cyan Kicks – Dancing With Demons
A little disappointing. The song itself is good and Susanna Alexander is perhaps one of UMK’s best singers. The stage performance itself was disappointing, the band was made “small” on stage and the show was visually far from its music video and the UMK performance two years ago.
Latex, leather and thought-out choreography were seen on stage, but more would have been needed. Maybe it looks better on TV than live?
However, a good song and song makes one lion cub.

Jesse Markin – Glow
Jesse Mark’s the show was UMK’s most colorful. The performance relied on Jesse, the dancers and the changing color scheme, no other elements were seen. Jesse used the catwalk to his advantage. Should I have gone to the catwalk earlier, that was the most effective part of the show. But even this lacked surprise.

Mikael Gabriel & Nublu – Vox Populi
Those who performed in the pulpits Mikael Gabriel and Nublu really took the song to a new level. There was humor in the show, but it wasn’t dragged into fat, skillful rapping. Mikael’s experience shows. Watching the show made me feel good, and Mikael smiled throughout the show.
The performance fit the song perfectly and there was a sense of surprise in it. Might beat UMK.

Sara Siipola – Shit
The visual elements supported the song nicely, and made it even better. The show doesn’t need explosives and pyros, it’s the idea that counts, Saranki’s performance proved that. There could have been even more drama, especially at the end.
She sang better than in practice, but could she have gotten more out of the song? Of course, there is an echo in the Nokia Arena, so maybe it sounds better on TV.
Fighting for victory.

Sexmane – Mania
The rapping went well live. Sexmanen the show saw an insightful use of the catwalk. Mania is better live than when listened to on Spotify.
There was drama and depth to the performances and it opened up the song in a new way.
A positive surprise.

Windows95man – No Rules
A denim egg has never been seen at UMK before. Well, see you now and a giant one. A brave, perverted and corny performance, which many think may overshoot.
Denim shorts that descend from the ceiling and spit pyro are also something that surely no one expected. So what the heck?
The show takes the attention, but there are praises to be given as well To Henri Piispa, whose singing went great. Is involved in the victory struggle. The audience literally exploded during the song.
