Iivo Niskanen ran his first official trot competition of the year at Vieremä midsummer trots. The final result was the best of Niskanen’s career so far.

Skier size Iivo Niskanen has long been known as an active nutritionist, and last year he took new steps in his hobby. Niskanen completed his trotting license in the spring a year ago, and last year he raced four starts.
Last year’s competitions were unsuccessful, but on Midsummer Friday in Vieremä, Niskanen achieved his first prize ranking as an instructor. In trots, normally half of the starting horses get money and being in the top three is called toto betting.
Driving by was Iivo Niskanen Matti Nisonen gelding trained and owned by neighboring Einari Vidgren Oy Black And Quick. Valjako’s race went perfectly from start to finish, and the result was a handsome second place only for the big favorite of the race to Rallston and Jani Ruotsalainen losing.
Black And Quick and Iivo Niskanen accelerated at the car start from the first track. The favorite Rallston took the lead at the start, but Black And Quick was able to defend the positions behind the leader. In the final stretch, Rallston dominated the race with ease, and Black And Quick was sure to advance to second place. The whole team’s performance was textbook.
The first prize at the start was 1200 euros, and when the runner-up received half of the first prize, Black And Quick’s winnings increased by 600 euros.
Iivo Niskanen was the second most inexperienced instructor in Friday’s race. Jani Ruotsalainen, who drove to victory in the race, has driven more than 15,000 starts and almost 1,900 victories in his career.
