The disciplinary board of the International Ice Hockey Federation has rejected the complaints of the ice hockey associations of Russia and Belarus about excluding the countries from next year’s World Cup tournaments as well.

The IIHF press release stated that the closure of the countries was not a sanction but a security issue.

Due to the war started by Russia, the IIHF decided to ban countries from participating in this year’s international value tournaments. In May, it was decided to continue the work until at least next year. At the same time, the men’s World Cup next spring and the under-20 World Cup at the turn of the year were moved out of Russia.

– Our view was that the organization of World Cup tournaments in Russia or the participation of Belarus and Russia in prestigious tournaments would have been a significant security risk, IIHF president Luc Tardif said in the release.

The ice hockey federations of Russia and Belarus are entitled to appeal the decision to the International Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS.

A complete strike from Russia

Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov did not find the IIHF’s decision a surprise.

– Expected decision. The KHL and the Russian Hockey Federation have to come up with something creative. There’s nothing we can do here. This is discrimination. They’re all scoundrels, Tardif included, Kozhevnikov snapped For Championat.

Former head coach of the Russian national team Vladimir Plushev let out a tantrum TASS in the interview.

– Everyone is against us in everything. Did you think they would make an exception here? Why file a complaint with CAS when they give us an answer? We have repeatedly proven that it is useless. They invented a doping agent that does not exist, Plyuschev spilled.

Plyuschev, who coached Russia in the 2003 World Cup, defiantly believes that the situation will turn in Russia’s favor.

– I think that this whole thing will be canceled when the special operation (in Ukraine) ends. Maybe in the fall, they will realize their position, when Europe starts to be heated with firewood.

Sport24’s According to the chairman of the culture and sports committee of the Russian Duma Dmitri Svishchevin thinks the IIHF’s decision “killed hockey”.

– Let them play their boring village series. I think that the International Ice Hockey Federation will realize before long that this was a strategic mistake on their part in terms of the development of the sport. After all, the best players come from Russia.

Svishchev did not digest the explanation offered to them about the World Cup gate ban. In his opinion, citing security risks was a childish excuse.

Vladimir Plušev openly shared his opinion on the continuation of Russia’s curfew at the World Cup tournaments. PDO
