Iida, 29, made a slightly different flower dress – See the enchanting pictures

Alahärmäläinen Iida Huhtaluhta, 29, enjoys making crafts. For her, making crafts is seasonal: in the winter, she twists wreaths of conifers and in the summer, flower wreaths. Sewing and baking are also close to my heart. He is also a familiar sight from the Koko Suomi leipoo TV show.

Now this summer, Iida ended up making a slightly different floral dress. The idea for a dress made of flowers came already in winter. That’s when she thought of making herself a dress from the pine cones. The crochet dress was still at the idea stage, but Iida threatens to implement this idea next winter.

– Now that the wildflowers are in such great bloom, I thought I’d make a summer version of the cone dress idea. I love flowers and the dress is so my look. Just big enough, Iida says.

– I’m a bit like that, that I usually don’t think about what others think. I do things that make me feel good. If I come up with some wacky idea, I’m sure to implement it and I’m unashamedly proud of it.

Making the dress started in the morning by collecting flowers.

– Mainly all the flowers have been collected from the roadside, I picked a few lilies from my own flower bed.

Iida says that just collecting the flowers took about two hours. The flowers were put in buckets of water to wait for the piling stage, so that they would stay good for as long as possible.

The floral dress is two-part

The flower dress has two different parts, i.e. the upper part and the lower part, which were finally joined together.

– First, I sorted all the flowers by length.

Iida started assembling the flower dress from the bottom part. He tied the longer flowers into small bunches with iron wire knots.

– I started assembling the lower part of the dress by attaching bundles with iron wire to a thick rubber band, which had been measured to a suitable size.

– After attaching the longest flowers, I added shorter flowers to the rubber band and the longest flower bunches. I continued this for a few rounds so that the lower part was thick enough and covered, says Iida.

When the lower part was finished, he moved on to work on the upper part of the flower dress. First, he measured the chest and body circumference. Based on this, he created a base of iron wire.

– In the bottom, I rolled the places for the cords in the back, so that I could wear it over the dress. The strings were lace because I thought it would look good, Iida describes.

Iida advises that a carpet weave would also have been a good fit for the ribbon, because the ribbons were hardly visible from the back.

To make the upper part, Iida used a smaller and lighter flower. He attached small bouquets made of these flowers around the upper part of the frame with iron wire.

In the lowest layer of the upper part, the flowers are placed hanging down.

– On the top two layers, the flowers came vertically upwards. That’s how they beautifully covered the front, says Iida.

The weight of the dress surprised me

Iida reveals that the moment of getting dressed was difficult. Fortunately, her husband helped her, whom Iida says always helps her with all the different projects.

– When I lifted the lower part for the first time, I realized that it was really heavy. The elastic alone could not hold the weight of the dress.

A belt was used to help, which was tied over the flowers during the dressing stage. The upper part went on without any problems, Iida adds. At this point, flowers were added to the center of the dress.

– We put iron wire on the flowers with the upper part facing up, because they were clearly already starting to fade.

Iida reveals that it took about three hours to make the upper and lower parts. Iidan feels that the process of making the flower dress was great considering how short the fun was.

– Even though the dress turned out beautiful, I don’t think I’ll do such a big project again.

In the same breath, however, she adds that she dreams of a similar floral top for summer parties. However, the top part would be combined with a tulle skirt instead of the bottom part made of flowers.

The floral dress was wanted to be immortalized in many ways. Iida spent about two hours wearing it.

– I was positively surprised that only a few fluffies caught the flowers.

Nevertheless, Iida recommends that allergy sufferers do not undertake this project.

Iida says that she has received a lot of positive feedback about her flower dress.

– It was even suggested to me that I could wear this dress to, say, the MET Gala in New York.
