During the search for a suspected lioness in the south of Berlin, an iguana had chosen a special target elsewhere: it was discovered on Thursday on the premises of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK).
This shared on Twitter on Friday: “In big cities there are sometimes surprising encounters with nature. …. The BMWK as a diverse and resilient ecosystem.”
The Berlin-Mitte district office also reported on Twitter on Friday about the reptile’s excursion and described it as “state” instead of “stately”: “While a lioness is being searched for in southern Berlin under high pressure, our veterinary supervision yesterday caught a young but still 90 cm state tree iguana on the premises of the BMWK. The animal is fine.”
As a spokesman for the ministry of Robert Habeck (Greens) reported to the “Berliner Morgenpost” on Friday, the reptile appeared on Thursday at the office buildings on Scharnhorststrasse, on a tree. The competent authorities at the district office were then informed. The iguana was caught and taken away by a medical officer. He is now coming to the reptile sanctuary in Munich.
How the exotic came to the site was unknown to the speaker.
