Iggy Pop does it with the gold tooth – new album “Every Loser”

Actually, we wanted to write the lyrics: “The older, the doller”. But that would have been somewhat disrespectful to the Godfather of Punk. Although: Iggy Pop himself, now 75 years old, calls his new single, which will be released at the end of October, “Frenzy”, which means something like “mad” or “insane”.

The track is the prelude to the campaign for his new album “Every Loser”, which will be released on Epiphany on January 6th, 2023.

Various US online sources are already reporting various details about the late work of the former The Stooges Beserker. And a lyric fragment that could have been taken from the song surfaced on Iggy Pop’s Twitter feed. With the usual solid lyrics: “Got a dick [and] two balls / that’s more than you all / my mind’ll be sick / if I suffer the pricks / so shut up [and] love me…”

Andrew Watt produced, and veteran studio mates like Peppers drummer Chad Smith and former band guitarist Josh Klinghoffer join the Iggy party.

The album is the first since “Free” (2019). The indestructible proto-punk legend was touring internationally in 2002. Due to visa problems, he and his France-based live band could not play the announced headlining show at the “Desert Daze Festival” in California in early October. At the beginning of 2023 there will be another quite exotic-sounding headliner station: The “Destination Chaos Festival” in the Dominican Republic.

“I’m the shirtless guy who rocks,” Pop said in a snappy statement to Billboard.

“Andrew and his label Gold Tooth understood me, so we made a record together the ‘old-fashioned’ way. The studio mates are guys I’ve known since they were kids. Ergo: the music will kick your ass. Have a great day.” Producer Watt added, “An album created to be played as loud as your rig will allow. So dial up and stay tuned!”

For the comparatively young Andrew Watt (32), the studio time with pop is another highlight in his collaboration with rock ‘n’ roll superstars. He produced Elton John and Britney Spears’ recent worldwide hit single Hold Me Closer, as well as Ozzy Osbourne’s new album Patient Number 9. In the last two years, the producing singer/songwriter from Great Neck, New York has also worked with Morrissey, Post Malone, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam.
