If food was not thrown away, money would be saved over a hundred euros per year per person. A family of four would pay for a spa vacation with the saved amount, says the Fiksuruoka.fi press release.
CEO of Fiksuruoka.fi, which sells waste food online Juhani Järvensivu states in the announcement that they want to wake up consumers to think about the monetary value of waste. Loss is a significant expense item for Finns.
This week in Finland, national waste week has been celebrated.
According to Luonnonvarakeskus Luke’s estimate, each Finn annually wastes 106 euros worth of food. If there was no waste, a family of four would save about four hundred euros a year.

With it you could get, for example, 200 bread bags, 400 milk cans, 80 packages of minced meat or a weekend vacation in a spa hotel for the whole family *.
– The livelihood of Finnish households has been a hot topic due to the increased cost of living. Satanen has a lot of money in a year, Järvensivu says in the press release.
Järvensivu estimates that Finns’ attitudes towards buying wasted food have improved over the years.
“Nowadays, everyone understands that the item to be sold is curant, even if it is under threat of loss,” Järvensivu says.
Järvensivu thinks that the change is due to the fact that consumers are more aware of the harmfulness of waste. According to him, today people already distinguish between the best before and the expiration date quite well.
* In the adjustment calculations, the product price estimates are based on the prices of the largest grocery stores. A bag of bread is about €2, a can of milk is about €1 and a 400 g package of minced meat is about €5. The price of a two-night spa holiday was estimated at around 400 euros.
