An independent commission of experts has sharply criticized the Corona measures. The politicians responsible should react now, but they remain silent. Apparently nobody wants to have been, says Gunnar Schupelius.
How useful was the lockdown? Did the schools also have to be closed? What effect did the 2G and 3G rules have?
In order to get to the bottom of these questions, the federal government set up a commission consisting of 18 independent experts and presented their results on 165 pages last Friday.
The experts went to court with the Merkel government and the state governments and confirmed the suspicions, criticism and fears of all those who questioned the corona measures.
First of all, it is still unclear whether the lockdown actually helped to stop the spread of the virus, because the government did not collect any data and did not commission any studies. The action was shot from the hip, it was a poke in the fog.
Worse still, the lockdown had a devastating effect on health because treatments were postponed, illnesses were not recognized and because isolation led to existential hardship and mental illness, including suicide. This applies in particular to the second lockdown from October 2020 to June 2021.
The children and young people were particularly hard hit: In Berlin, schools in grades 10-13 were completely closed from December 16, 2020 to March 17, 2021, and ages 7-9 even until April 19. After that, alternating classes were prescribed.
Secondly, the experts come to the conclusion that the effect of the Corona rules “2G” and “3G” cannot be proven either, because the effect of the vaccination quickly wore off and the vaccinated people were therefore also contagious.
Thirdly, the expert council sharply criticizes the way in which the Corona rules were imposed: With the “federal-state round”, in which Chancellor Merkel decided everything with the prime ministers, a body outside the constitution was created. “It was held behind closed doors”, there was no “public exchange of arguments”, no “presentation of reasons”, no comparison of controversial positions”.
Exactly this undemocratic procedure had been denounced by many critics of the Corona measures. Even if they presented their objections reasonably, they were not heard and were generally referred to as “deniers” or even “covidiotes” by politicians, for example by SPD chairwoman Saskia Esken on Twitter on August 1, 2020.
The government imposed draconian measures in an undemocratic manner without to date having checked whether they were necessary and effective. That was the bitter realization that is now officially confirmed.
It would be natural for the politicians who got us into this to speak up, including the former Chancellor. But they are silent, they have disappeared. Nobody wants it to be.
