In an interview published on April 1st, Lewis Capaldi spoke about his Tourette’s Syndrome and how his condition limits his musical creativity.
“My tic gets pretty bad on stage,” he explained to the British “TheTimes“. “I’m trying to get that under control. If that doesn’t work, I’m screwed. It’s easier when I play the guitar, but I hate playing the guitar.”
In September 2022, the singer-songwriter announced his Tourette Syndrome diagnosis. “I can deal with my Tourette Syndrome because I know it’s not life threatening, the dizziness seems to be from my bronchitis, and I’m coming off the drug sertraline for anxiety. Also, I have an ear infection. It’s a mixture of many different ailments. Now I’m wondering what’s next?” said the Scot about his health.
In the documentary about the 26-year-old, which will be released on Netflix on April 5, he talks about the psychological and physical toll he has to pay for his success and questions his career. The film also accompanies Capaldi during the making of his second album, BROKEN BY DESIRE TO BE HEAVENLY SENT, which will be released on May 19th. “It’s sad to see. I didn’t expect my life to be so sad,” he says of the film. The title comes from his song of the same name, which has already been released as a release and can be heard on the new long player.
