How do you make people in the congregation a little nicer? And what does a mayor actually do? In ‘If I were the boss’, brother and sister Kevin and Tessa from Meppel, together with twins Liam and Lenn from Dwingeloo, explain how they think about municipal politics.
In the setting of the old state room of the Drents museum, we find out what children have already stored in their brains. “The municipality is the boss of a village”, for example, Liam and Lenn are sure. And the mayor? “He approves all things,” adds Kevin. Tessa already knows the municipality ‘solves all problems and ensures that new houses are built’.
The children look at certain issues slightly differently. For example, they do have a solution for cars that speed past in busy places in the Drenthe municipalities. “Maybe just don’t make the cars that fast,” Liam and Lenn tip the policymakers. And how do you keep residents of the municipality friendly? “Hold more parties. Or bring a bunch of flowers.”
