AND the event, now in its 11th edition, which marks the inauguration of the academic year of IED Milan. But this year the IED Square Fest leaves the spaces of the School for the first time, arriving at Palazzo Morando, with the contribution of the Municipality of Milan. The thought festival (from 19 to 21 October) will therefore be an opportunity for question ourselves together – male and female students and citizens of Milan – on the main trajectories of the contemporary world. To reflect on the distance between the protagonist generations of today, with particular attention to the meaning of work, identity and culture.

«Among our duties and desires, as a School, there is that of share thoughts not only with our very first interlocutors, the male and female students who will be the designers of the near future, but also with the socio-environmental context that surrounds usin a growing relationship with the city ecosystem, which we desire make it part of our project to redesign tomorrow», comments the Director of IED Milan, Alberico Guerzoni. «The first public inauguration of the IED academic year is part of this path, of which an important piece is the approach to the large international campus in the area of the former slaughterhouse, an operation of opening and urban regeneration of which we are proud to join”.
It starts with But who makes me do it? How work has deceived us
After the inauguration of the academic year in Piazza Sempione, on Thursday 19 October at 11am, the first talk at Palazzo Morando (at 4.30pm) will be moderated by Cristina Lacava, of iO Donna. Title of the meeting, But who makes me do it? How work deluded us: the end of the spell. The philosophers of Tlon – Andrea Colamedici and Maura Gancitano they will address the topic of work-related malaise, which is almost pathological and increasingly collective. With the pandemic that unleashed a rewriting of priorities, between personal satisfaction and well-being, balance between professional and private life and growth opportunities. And Generation Z and Millennials are the age groups that are most involved. Why?
This first talk will be followed by another eight talks, with around twenty speakers. Each in their own way will offer an interpretation of the dynamics of change in today’s world, ready to share reflections on generational comparison.

The talks will address current priorities in terms of work-life balance of young protagonists of the world of work, those needs that often become also contractual expectationslooking at phenomena such as the great resignation and the quite quitting. The questioning of some certainties of previous generations by today’s 20/30 year olds is also reflected in a narrative crisis. IED Square will then be an opportunity to analyze the new languages and ways of writing and narrating a generation. Di make information explained well to really capture their attention. But also to talk about the very current climate anxiety and gender positivity, with its expression in the arts.
