Icelandic volcanic eruption may be over, experts say | Abroad

No seismic activity has been measured since Sunday morning. The lava flow has also decreased, reports RUV. It is admittedly too early to declare the eruption over. Authorities warned that the eruption could resume.

The volcano first erupted on August 3, in a valley near Mount Fagradalsfjall about 30 kilometers southwest of the capital Reykjavik. Thousands of tourists flock to the site, some of whom underestimate the challenge and wear only flip-flops.

Icelandic authorities said on Friday that a hiking trail would make the site of the volcanic eruption easier to reach. But now that volcanic activity has subsided, fewer tourists are making the trek.
