The German ice hockey women started successfully in the World Cup in Canada. Despite being quickly behind after just ten seconds, the team coached by national coach Thomas Schädler won their first group game 6-2 (1-1, 3-1, 2-0) against Sweden in Brampton on Thursday (April 6th, 2023).
Franziska Feldmeier (19th) managed to equalize before the first third break. In the middle third, Laura Kluge (25th), Celina Haider (26th) and Svenja Voigt (34th) ensured the 4:2 lead. Again Haider (48th) and Feldmeier (56th) scored the final score.
Third place in the group is the goal
On Friday (9 p.m.) the German team continues against Finland. The other group opponents are France and Hungary. The aim of the German selection is to leave two teams behind in order to safely avoid relegation. Third place in the group of five nations would also mean entry into the quarter-finals.
