Ice hockey: Few spectators: Germany Cup for the last time in Krefeld

Status: 11/11/2022 12:18 p.m

The Ice Hockey Germany Cup will be held in Krefeld for the last time this year. This is also due to the lack of resonance.

The change of location was confirmed by the President of the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB), Peter Merten. “We are here for the fifth time. The innovation effect has evaporated. We want to go to another location”said Merten.

Less than 1,000 fans against Denmark

On Thursday (November 10th, 2022) there were less than 1,000 spectators in the hall at the German 3-2 win after extra time against Denmark. Officially, the DEB had given 1,680 spectators. However, as Merten explained, a number of tickets had gone to state associations and sponsors, some of which were not used. “It’s not ideal”said Merten to the disappointing number of spectators.

First Schwenningen, then Munich?

A change of location to Munich was originally planned, where a new hall should have been ready long ago, but is still under construction. 2023 would be a transitional year in Schwenningen, for example. “There’s a great arena there. But we really haven’t made a decision yet.”said Merten, who is hoping for significantly more spectators for the weekend in Krefeld.

Germany will play Austria on Saturday and then Slovakia on Sunday.
