The Eisbären Berlin ended their bankruptcy series in the German ice hockey league (DEL) thanks to Frederik Tiffels. After four defeats in a row, the master won 4: 3 (1: 0, 1: 2, 1, 1, 1: 0) after extra time. Meanwhile, after the youngest slip, league leader Adler Mannheim returned to the winning road with a 5: 1 (1: 0, 2: 0, 2: 1) at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers.
“It was very difficult in the third third. At some point we found the switch and played polar bear ice hockey,” said Matchwinner Tiffels in magenta. Berlin had last received four bankruptcies in a row in the 2022/23 season.
“We know what quality we have in the squad. We just have to put it on the ice,” defender Eric Mik had explained before the game and promptly followed the opening goal (18th). Patrick Khodorenko increased (21st) for the polar bears, but Cody Kunyk (33.) and Donald Busdeker (40th) still compensated in the middle third.
Florian Elias (54.) brought Augsburg forward in the final phase in the power play for the first time, polar bear coach Serge Aubin took goalkeeper Jake Hildebrand off the ice a little later – and was rewarded. Tiffels scored 3: 3 (59.), took care of overtime and hit again after six seconds (61.).
In Nuremberg, thanks to the goals of Yannick Proske (15th, 59th), Nicolas Mattinen (21st) and Maximilian Heim (39th, 55th), the eagles prevailed and thus showed the perfect response to the previous first defeat of the season, which they had collected against the Löwen Frankfurt. With six victories from seven games, Mannheim is now four points ahead of the first pursuer Grizzlys Wolfsburg, who won a wild encounter with 7: 5 (3: 0, 2: 2, 2: 3) at the EHC Red Bull Munich.
