One week before the start of the new season in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), Red Bull Munich is still in top form.

The runners-up won the Champions League on Thursday after a wild exchange of blows 5: 4 (2: 1, 0: 3, 2: 0, 1: 0) after extra time against Rapperswil Jona-Lakers from Switzerland and is after the third success in the third game just before the early qualification for the knockout stage.

Canadian Ben Street (3rd, 10th, 43rd) with a hat-trick, Zachary Redmond (46th) and Austin Ortega (64th) in overtime scored for Bayern Munich, who had slumped in the middle third. Coach Don Jackson’s side are second in Group C with eight points.

Marco Baßler (24′) and Matt White (33′) equalized twice for the Eisbären, but Ryan Lasch scored 38 seconds before the end of the game to win for the still flawless Swedes.

The Grizzlys Wolfsburg held up well against the Swiss champions EV Zug, but lost 3:4 (2:1, 0:2, 1:0, 0:1) after extra time and slipped to third place in group B.

Next Thursday, the Munich team will open the DEL season with an away game at the Kölner Haie.
