EHC Munich defended the top of the table in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with a commanding victory in Nuremberg. Master Berlin conceded the next bankruptcy against Straubing and slipped deeper into the mess.
Red Bull Munich won 4-1 (1-0, 2-1, 1-0) at the Nuremberg Ice Tigers on Friday evening (December 2nd, 2022) and initially extended its lead over pursuer Adler Mannheim. It was the eighth league win in a row for Munich.
In the duel between Mannheim’s pursuers, ERC Ingolstadt beat Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven 3-0 (0-0, 1-0, 2-0) and advanced to third place.
Home bankruptcy for polar bears against Straubing
The Eisbären Berlin are still deep in the crisis. The German champions conceded their second defeat in a row against the Straubing Tigers with 1:2 (0:0, 1:1, 0:1). In front of 9716 spectators in the arena at the Ostbahnhof, the home side seemed unsure from the start, the guests were the more dangerous team and also took the lead through Travis St. Denis (23rd). The polar bears needed a double advantage situation to equalize through Kevin Clark (28th).
As a result, Straubing took over the initiative again. Shortly after the start of the final section, Parker Tuomie gave the visitors the lead again on a power play (45′) after Berlin defender Marco Nowak received a game misconduct penalty for a knee check. Schwenningen pulls Berlin away
For the Berliners, the air is slowly getting thinner after another defeat, especially since the competition in the table basement was at least partially able to score points. Schwenningen beat the Augsburg Panthers, who were in the penultimate place in the table, 1-0 (0-0, 0-0, 0-0, 1-0) after extra time and thus increased the lead over the Eisbären, Augsburg still got a point. Tylor Spink made the decision in overtime after 50 seconds.

Haie sent Frankfurt home 3-1
The Kölner Haie had already won 3-1 against the Frankfurt Lions at the start of the 26th matchday on Thursday evening. David McIntyre gave the Haie an early lead (3′). Andreas Thuresson put together a brace (38′, 49′). Reid McNeill scored an equalizer for the lions. The Haie maintained their place in the playoffs with 37 points.
The game was brought forward because the Haie are playing the DEL Winter Game against Adler Mannheim at the stadium in Müngersdorf on Saturday.
