Ice hockey, DEL: Kölner Haie celebrate their third win in a row

The Kölner Haie have found their form again after their low at the beginning of the month.

On the 13th matchday of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), the team of former national coach Uwe Krupp defeated the Schwenninger Wild Wings 3:1 (1:0, 2:1, 0:0) and moved up in the table after their third win Series past the guests.

Andreas Thuresson (11th), Maximilian Kammerer (39th) and Andrej Sustr (40th) scored for Cologne in front of 18,465 spectators, while Ben Marshall (28th) had equalized for Schwenningen. Cologne is now fifth, four points behind leaders Eisbären Berlin, Schwenningen in sixth is level on points with the Haien.

Manuel Wiederer (7th) and Blaine Byron (17th) scored for the Eisbären in the first third, but after that there was little going for the hosts. Colt Adam Conrad (21st/41st), Nicholas Jensen (28th) and Jan Urbas (60th) turned the game around.

Düsseldorf celebrates its first home win under Pellegrims

Also on Sunday, Düsseldorfer EG had its first victory under Neu-Coach Mike Pellegrims drove in. The Rhinelanders celebrated a 4:1 (2:0, 0:1, 2:0) win against second-placed Adler Mannheim.

Phil Varone (5th) and Kohen Olischefski (12th) ensured an optimal start in Düsseldorf. Yannick Proske (34th) brought the favorite closer in the second section. But the DEG withstood the pressure from Mannheim. When the Eagles put all their eggs in one basket in the final minutes, Philip Gogulla (60th) and Olischefski (60th) again secured the decision with a brace and secured Düsseldorf’s first home win of the season at the sixth attempt.

DeSousa brings Munich back into the game

After six competitive games without a win, champions Munich also achieved success again. Against the Augsburg Panthers, the hosts fell behind at 5:1 (1:1, 2:0, 2:0) thanks to Chris Collins (7th) in the first third. But then Munich came back: Chris DeSousa (16th, 24th) turned the game around and Jonathon Blum (29th) followed up.

Veit Oswald (53rd) and Austin Ortega (54th) made everything clear with a double strike within 100 seconds. 19 points mean ninth place for Munich.

Schmölz makes Nuremberg celebrate against Wolfsburg

Nuremberg gained some breathing room in the table cellar Ice Tigers with a 3:2 (0:0, 2:2, 1:0) against the Wolfsburg Grizzlys. Daniel Schmölz (45th) scored the winning goal in the last round.

Bottom team Iserlohn Roosters were also able to celebrate a victory again after six defeats in a row – but only in a penalty shootout. Taro Jentzsch scored the decisive shot against the Straubing Tigers to make it 4:3 (1:2, 1:0, 1:1, 0:0).
