Ice hockey, DEL: Home debacle for Iserlohn and Düsseldorf

As of: October 3rd, 2023 7:22 p.m

The Düsseldorfer EG is not getting going at all in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and is still stuck in last place in the table. Berlin took the lead with a landslide victory in Iserlohn.

The 2:5 (0:2, 1:2, 1:1) on Tuesday (October 3rd, 2023) on their own ice against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg was the sixth defeat in the seventh game of the season for the eight-time champions.

Phil Varone scored twice for DEG, which has so far only won the Rhine derby at Kölner Haien (4:3 nP). Five different professionals were successful for Wolfsburg. The Grizzlys got their fourth win on matchday 7.

Eisbären give Iserlohn eight goals

Things aren’t going well at the Iserlohn Roosters either. The club suffered its fourth defeat in its fourth home game. In the 2:8 (1:4, 0:3, 1:1) against the Eisbären Berlin, the hosts had nothing to gain from the start. The Berliners around double goalscorer Zach Boychuk secured themselves in the top group with their fifth win.

The Kölner Haie are also further ahead. However, the second-placed team had a tough job with the Augsburg Panthers. At the beginning of the final third it was 1:3 from the Haie perspective. But Frederik Storm (43′) and Maximilian Kammerer brought Cologne back to 3-3.

After a goalless extra time, twelve shooters had to take part in the shootout before Storm scored the winning goal for Cologne.

Munich comes back after falling behind

EHC Munich also had to stretch hard in the home game against Nuremberg and turned a 1:3 deficit into a 5:3 (1:2, 2:1, 2:0) win. With 13 points, Munich are fifth.

The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven are also working their way towards the upper table regions. Markus Vikingstad gave the North Germans a 3:2 (0:1, 0:0, 2:1, 1:0) win against ERC Ingolstadt in the second minute of extra time.
