Düsseldorf is somewhat surprisingly in the front! From the center, Brendan O’Donnell puts a strong shot over to the right into the path of Kohen Olischefski, who puts the disc from his forehand to his backhand in front of the goal and hits the net to make it 1-0.

Regarding the staff on the ice: At Düsseldorf, Henrik Haukeland returns to the line-up after his illness, but Henrik Hane starts again in goal, otherwise there are no changes in the line-up. Apart from Marcel Müller, who is in advanced training, all Tigers players are available and there are one or two changes in the line-up compared to the last game. Hunter Miska is guarding the goal at the beginning.

Apart from the table situation, the omens clearly speak for today’s guests from the Pulverturm. DEG lost all of their last nine matches against the Tigers. This season, the Rhinelanders lost to Lower Bavaria twice with 1:4 and once with 2:1 in overtime. After winning three competitive games in a row, which was the first time this season, the Düsseldorf team now hopes to be able to break the black streak against Straubing.

The Lower Bavarians still have the best defense in the league with only 90 goals conceded and impress even when they are outnumbered with a penalty killing rate of almost 90%. The top scorer is still defender Nicolas Mattinen with 37 points. He already has 12 goals and 25 assists to his name and is having an extremely strong season.

While Düsseldorf can use every point in the fight to stay in the league, things look much more relaxed for the Straubing Tigers. They are currently in third place with 75 points and are almost certain of the playoffs, including home advantage in the playoffs. A lot would have to happen for the Tigers to slip out of the top six or top four. They got an acceptable seven points from the last three games and are looking forward to the rest of the main round in a relaxed manner.

Düsseldorf is deep down in the table cellar, is third from bottom and the points cushion on bottom-placed Iserlohn is melting and melting. On Sunday there will be a basement duel between these two teams, but before that DEG has to play against Straubing this evening. With currently 45 points, the team is in twelfth place, two points ahead of bottom-placed Iserlohn and is in a five-way battle with Augsburg, Frankfurt, Nuremberg and the Roosters in the fight to stay in the league.
