Swiss goal does not want to fall
The Swiss held up well against the 2018 Olympic champion and almost survived the first third without conceding a goal – but in the last few seconds Kirill Semyonov rang the bell.
In an intense and exciting game, however, the Swiss were unable to convert their good performance into goals. The Russians also survived a 2+2 minute time penalty at the end of the second period due to a headbutt by Anton Slepyshev. In the end it was a narrow 1:0 for the defending champion.
In the afternoon, the other two teams from group B also get involved in the tournament: the Czech Republic meets Denmark at 2:10 p.m.
Germany vs Canada on Thursday
For the German team, which sensationally won silver in 2018, the first game in Beijing is scheduled for Thursday at 2:10 p.m. Then it’s against Canada. However, the Olympic tournament takes place in the absence of the world’s best players from the NHL.
In the women’s ice hockey tournament, the preliminary round has already ended. This is where the action continues on Friday and Saturday with the quarter-final games USA vs. Czech Republic, Canada vs. Sweden, ROC vs. Switzerland and Finland vs. Japan.
