The German ice hockey club Adler Mannheim is cooperating with the Fair Wear Works project to make its range of merchandise more sustainable.
With the more sustainable procurement of the fan articles, the team wants to “set an example for improving working conditions and reducing the environmental impact of textile production along the supply chain”, said the women’s rights organization Femnet, which together with the environmental organization Global Nature Fund (GNF) is behind Fair Wear Works stands, on Tuesday with.
“Sustainability is not a trend, but a global issue. We try to implement this task in the best possible way. However, there are still many hurdles to be overcome, such as the lack of transparency,” said Dominik Dobiasch, Head of Merchandising at Adler Mannheim.
GNF advises companies on changing their textile purchasing. Textile labels and certifications are examined more closely. For the ice hockey team, ecological and social standards should be taken into account when purchasing fan articles such as sweaters, flags and T-shirts.
