The Grizzlys Wolfsburg failed in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League at the Swedish representative Lulea HF. The other two German clubs are also on the brink.
The Grizzlys Wolfsburg and the Straubing Tigers failed in the round of 16 of the Champions Hockey League (CHL). A week after the home defeat against Lulea HF (2:3), a 1:2 (0:0, 1:0, 0:2) at the Swedish runners-up meant the end for Wolfsburg, fifth in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Tyler Morley gave the Grizzlies the lead after about half an hour. The Austrian Konstantin Komarek and Oscar Engsund ensured with their goals that Wolfsburg was out of the ice hockey premier class.
No Straubing miracle
After a 4-0 loss in the first meeting with Frölunda Göteborg HC, Straubing faced an almost impossible task and in front of 4480 spectators in the stadium at the Pulverturm, the Straubing miracle didn’t happen.
At home there was a 2: 3 (1: 1, 1: 1, 0: 1) against the CHL record winner, the Swedes did not let any tension arise. Brandon Manning (16th) and Marcel Brandt (29th) scored for the team coached by Tom Pokel. Ryan Lasch (14th), Patrik Carlsson (38th) and Frederik Dichow (57th) scored the guest goals.
Also Munich before the end
This means that the quarter-finals will probably take place without German participation. Because the omens on Wednesday (7.45 p.m.) are also bad for EHC Munich after a 1:5 home defeat against the Swiss champions EV Zug.
