The Adler Mannheim missed the quarter-finals in the Champions Hockey League (CHL). In the round of 16 it was over against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers.
The Adler Mannheim said goodbye to the Champions Hockey League on Tuesday evening (November 21st). In the second leg of the round of 16 against Rapperswil-Jona from Switzerland, the Electoral Palatinate team lost 3-1.
A quick lead for the visitors in the 2nd minute
After the 4-1 defeat in the first leg, the Eagles went into the second leg against the Lakers with a three-goal deficit. The Mannheim team’s hopes of reaching the round of the last eight with a big win in the second duel were quickly dashed. Gian-Marco Wetter scored for the Swiss in the second minute of the game to make it 1-0. Jordan Schroeder increased the lead to 2-0 for Rapperswil-Jona in the middle of the second period; from the Mannheim team’s point of view, a small ice hockey miracle was needed.
Plachta shortens, Dünner scores for the final score
Matthias Plachta brought the Eagles back to 1:2 in the third period (45′), but the chances of progressing had already fallen to a minimum. Shortly before the end of the game, Nico Dünr made the final score 1:3 from Mannheim’s perspective. After two defeats against Rapperswil-Jona, the season in the Champions Hockey League is over for the Adler.
