Ice hockey: Adler Mannheim celebrate CHL opening victory

The Adler Mannheim have successfully started in the Champions Hockey League.

At the start of a premier class season with a new format and modified rules, coach Johan Lundskog’s team won 4:2 (0:1, 2:1, 2:0) against HC Bozen and showed comeback qualities after a 0:2 in the meantime.

Mattias Plachta, 2018 Olympic silver medalist with the national ice hockey team, started the race to catch up with his goal (29th) to make it 1:2. David Wolf (46th) gave the team from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) the lead in the final section, Jyrki Jokipakka (60th) scored the final point with his shot into an empty goal.

A new mode is used in the current CHL season. Instead of 32, only 24 teams take part. However, these will not be divided into groups as before, but will be listed in a “regular season” (31 August to 18 October) in an overall table. Each team plays only once against six different opponents in each of three home and away games.
