Beijing (AP) – The Dortmund ice dancers Katharina Müller and Tim Dieck failed in their Olympic debut in Beijing just to qualify for the freestyle final.
With 65.47 points in the rhythmic dances they missed the final battle of the 20 best couples with the 21st place. The two-time German champions were unlucky to get the ungrateful start number one in the draw and have to go onto the ice first.
Added to this was the handicap that Tim Dieck had to accept restrictions after arriving in China as a corona contact person in the preparation for the competition. “The whole thing pushed me into negative energy, but I tried to turn it into positive energy,” he said.
The four-time world champions and five-time European champions Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron took the first step towards the desired Olympic victory. With 90.83 points, the French took the lead. The European champions Wiktoria Sinizina/Nikita Kazalapow from Russia are second with 88.85 points in the freestyle on Monday. Third place went to American ice dancers Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue with 87.13 points.
