Cold training in De Meent Alkmaar – Alkmaar Central

The participants are primed to walk barefoot on the ice, stand still on the ice and relax cross-legged on the ice.

Wim Hof Method:

The Wim Hof Method was developed by the ‘Iceman’ Wim Hof. It combines the powers of cold training, breathing and mindset. In their own words, the Wim Hof Method ensures that you ‘regain your strength’, find balance and become stronger both physically and mentally.

The final is lying on the ice rink with bare skin. All participants managed to accomplish that this week, and that made trainer Eddy Bakker very proud, he tells media partner Alkmaar Central

“I put the training together with my colleague, we have been working on it for a few years,” says Bakker. “We built it up slowly. From breathing training, we started with that, then three times walking on the ice and standing still on the ice.”

Then the participants have to sit on the ice: “Then you increase the surface area of your body that comes into contact with the ice.” Participation in the training was rewarded afterwards with hot chocolate in the canteen of the ice rink.

staff card

With the training, Alkmaar Sport wants to draw attention to the ‘Boost your vitality’ gift card that companies can purchase for their staff. This allows their employees to choose from an extensive range of sports.

The municipality of Alkmaar is one of the organizations that has purchased this card for staff. This month, officials can participate in a varied package of activities, including an Introduction to cold training twice – on the ice and in the open water at the Hoornsevaart – and twice a boot camp session.
