Ice-cold SC Paderborn beats trying Karlsruhers

As of: November 6th, 2023 12:01 a.m

After the cup coup at SC Freiburg, SC Paderborn also celebrated a victory in the 2nd Bundesliga. The SCP won 3-0 (1-0) at Karlsruher SC on matchday 12.

Adriano Grimaldi (17th) and Felix Platte (71st/86th) scored for the Paderborn team, who were extremely efficient at KSC. The SCP now has 18 points and jumps into the top half of the table. The KSC tried a lot, but only won one of the last eight games and slipped into the relegation zone.

KSC waits at the beginning

At the beginning nothing happened. The KSC left the ball to the guests and waited for Paderborn to make mistakes on the slippery grass in the Wildpark.

But the Karlsruhe team made the first serious mistake. Ex-Paderborn player Robin Bormuth slipped a high ball into the feet of Florent Muslija. The SCP top scorer passed it straight on to Grimaldi, who dribbled into the penalty area and scored powerfully into the right corner (17th).

Matanovic misses opportunities

Despite the deficit, the KSC did not change its approach. The SCP remained dominant, but now also made mistakes. SCP goalkeeper Jannik Huth slipped in the penalty area with the ball on his foot, but was still on the ball before Lars Stindl (31st). Seven minutes later, Stindl shot from a central position, Huth let the ball slap forward, but Igor Matanovic put the follow-up shot over the goal from five meters (38th).

In stoppage time in the first half, Huth was even beaten, but Kai Klefisch saved from the line against Matanovic and secured the Paderborn team’s half-time lead.

Karlsruhe increases the pressure

In the second half, suddenly only Karlsruhe played. The KSC put the Paderborn team under massive pressure and created several chances within a few minutes. What was missing was efficiency. Fabian Schleusener missed the best opportunity when he was denied by Huth from a tight angle in the 57th minute.

It was only after around 65 minutes that the SCP managed to free themselves a little from Karlsruhe’s pressure – and would have liked a penalty in the 68th minute. Marcel Beifus met Filip Bilbija in the penalty area. But both referee Patrick Schwengers and video assistant Tobias Stieler decided against a penalty.

Platte scores with the first goal shot for Paderborn

Just three minutes later, the Paderborn team didn’t care. Bilbija sent on Platte, who had been substituted just a few seconds earlier, who hit the left corner with his first shot from 13 meters (71′). It was also Paderborn’s first shot on goal in the second half.

The KSC continued to play forward, but now without any final conviction. Instead, Platte made the decision five minutes before the end when he completed a cross from Muslija to make it 3-0 (85th).
