Ibrahim Kamara takes over the position of Art & Image Director at Off-White.
He joins a collective of creatives in this position and oversees the brand’s artistic direction, the streetwear label said on Instagram on Sunday. He should influence the collection, the image and the content of the brand.
Kamara: “Virgil will be with us forever.”
The appointment follows the death of Virgil Abloh. The founder of Off-White and menswear designer at Louis Vuitton died at the end of November at the age of 41. The relationship between Kamara and Abloh was formed through private messages on the social media platform Instagram and has developed both personally and professionally over the past three years, the post says.
“Following Virgil’s tragic death, we have worked tirelessly to keep his legacy alive and the brand relevant as a reference point and platform in constant evolution,” said Off-White Managing Director Andrea Grilli. “Inspired by Virgil’s vision and approach to his art, we have built a collective of creative minds who are the best in their category and have a strong and personal connection to Virgil.”
“Virgil will be with us forever. With me. He changed the world and left an indelible mark on everyone he met and beyond,” Kamara wrote in an Instagram post on Sunday. “Generous of his time, spirit and creativity – he saw everyone and created with them all people in mind. I’m honored to continue to deepen my connection with Off-White as Art & Image Director and to be part of the team that will tell the rest of the story Virgil began to write for all of us.”
Editor-in-Chief at Dazed takes on Art Direction at Off-White
Kamara has been “part of the Off-White™ family for years” and styled the fashion shows, Grilli continues. He has also held the position of Editor-in-Chief at fashion magazine Dazed since March last year. He was a jury member for the International Woolmark Prize 2022 and won the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards in November.
“With his talent and vision, we look forward to embarking on the next chapter of Off-White together, always remembering the pioneering creativity and values Virgil held dear and which are at the core of our brand.” Grilli.
