HANNOVER (dpa-AFX) – Despite the gloomy economy, the commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck has so far not seen any downturn in day-to-day business. “There is still a need in the market for more trucks,” Karin Radstrom, Head of Europe and Latin America, told journalists at the IAA Transportation commercial vehicle show in Hanover on Monday. “At the moment we don’t see any signs of slowing down – although that can happen quite quickly,” she admitted.
In Brazil, the provider is currently experiencing special demand due to purchases being brought forward as a result of a change in emissions standards, so there will be less business there in the coming year. In Europe, the business runs parallel to the general economic situation. However, she does not currently see any dents in incoming orders, she added. Radström is responsible for Europe and Latin America as well as for the truck brand Mercedes-Benz at the Dax group (DAX 40) Daimler Truck.
With an impending recession in important regions of the world as a result of high energy prices and poor consumer sentiment, commercial vehicle manufacturers could come under more pressure again. Radstrom emphasized that the manufacturer is currently trying to pass on rising costs, such as for energy, to customers through price increases. According to the group, Daimler Truck has tackled the biggest rounds of price increases this year./men/DP/stw
