Angela de Jong shouldn’t even think about taking part in the new celebrity show of the Meilandjes, but what if she were in it? “Then I would start talking about the rape!”
It is becoming an increasing irritation factor for Angela de Jong, the most important TV columnist in the Netherlands: the Meiland reality family. There are now two episodes of their new celebrity show Chateau Meiland VIPS and, according to the AD opinion dragon, it is really a repetition. According to her, Martien Meiland should be punished.
Huge disappointment
Angela is really very critical. “I thought the first two seasons of the Meilandjes were really fantastic. Maybe three, maybe four. I don’t want to be too mean. But if, as is now the case, a relatively new format is presented, then I think it is a huge disappointment that it is just the same again,” she says in the AD Media podcast.
Doesn’t she see it as the new Villa Felderhof? “Well, no, you would really be doing Villa Felderhof a disservice. This is really about the fact: two guests are now allowed to come and stay and they can interview the Meiland family. You would expect it to be the other way around in this program, but it is more or less an interview with the Meiland family.”
Same again
And if there’s one thing we don’t need, it’s an interview with the Meilandjes, Angela sneers. “So that we get to know them again from a side that we have known for a long time. But hey, it doesn’t matter.”
“Last night it was about Martine and Erica’s wedding again, because Patty said: ‘How is that going? What are you two to each other?’ “Well, we’re married.” We’ve known that since episode 1. “And we have love, but no sex.” Yeah, we knew that since episode 2. Yeah, I really can’t watch it. For real.”
Major plummets
The VIPS show lost 100 thousand viewers this week. “It would make perfect sense if it had plummeted, because it really doesn’t deserve that many viewers. And then Martien starts screaming again and then they go to a flea market again and then he accidentally walks with another woman’s cart. “Oh, girl!” No, we’ve never seen that before!”
It is a limited loss of viewership, because in general the Meilandjes continue to score well. “Yes. Still a decent score. It is being milked enormously, but you can’t blame SBS and the Meilandjes for that at all.”
Rape
Has Angela been asked yet? “No of course not.”
Would she do it? “No, neither.”
What would she ask the Meilandjes? “Well, then I would of course tell Maxime about the whole case that is now underway because of her alleged rape, as I might add, very politically correct.”
Well, that won’t be an invitation. “I don’t think so either, so I immediately canceled my invitation.”
