I wish all Russian Dana Internationals, Conchita Wurst’s and aspiring Nikkie de Jagers a broader world view | Inland

Set the official opening tune of the Eurovision Song Contest, and I’m sitting next to my sisters on the couch with freshly washed hair in my Freggels pajamas. A bowl of paprika chips on your lap, a glass of coke and stay up until the last douze points have been handed out. Could it be better than that? Absolutely not. But the legendary song festival evenings in my student days did come close. In colorful company friends and related birds of paradise opened the dress-up box and put a good splash of rum in the cola. We also kept an alternative score for the most beautiful dress or most extravagant act. The evening that the Israeli Dana International became the first trans woman to win the Eurovision Song Contest also went down in our history (for several reasons).
