“I was sad in Germany”

As a loan player from Borussia Dortmund, Reinier was rarely able to bring his immense talent onto the pitch. The Brazilian has now opened up about his two years of suffering at BVB – but also listed some bright spots.

“I was sad in Germany,” said the 22-year-old in an interview with the Spanish portal “Relevo”. “Being alone in my first year in Germany was very difficult. I didn’t have many things to do after the game. That drove me crazy. I just didn’t know what to do,” complained Reinier.

Real Madrid loaned the youngster to Dortmund for two seasons in the summer of 2020 after Los Blancos had previously signed the winger from Flamengo for 30 million euros. At BVB he played 27 Bundesliga games over the two years, although only two of them were in the starting line-up.

He felt misunderstood by BVB coaches Edin Terzic and Marco Rose during his time in the Bundesliga. “I never played and suddenly the coach put me in the most difficult games after I hadn’t played ten games. I didn’t understand much,” criticized the junior national player.

Hope to see you again with your BVB companion

At least he was well received by the team, said the offensive player. “I liked everyone, they always talked to me and tried to help me with the language,” he praised his colleagues, some of whom took special care of him.

“I always spend time with Jude Bellingham, [Erling] Haaland and Gio Reyna spent. The four of us were always together, Akanji too,” he recalled. “We always joked around and still talk to each other today. You will always be in my heart.”

Reinier has still not left his role as a loan player behind. After an interlude at FC Girona, he is spending the current season in Italy at Frosinone. However, his contract with Real Madrid is still running.

His dream is still to assert himself there and to play together with Jude Bellingham again soon. “I hope that he continues like this and that I can be with him again in the future,” said Reinier.
